I really need to update on a better schedule. WOOPS TOO LATE NOW
But yeah, on Friday I finally finished the project. The final product and some photographs/screenshots will be going up shortly. It was a wonderful experience!

Inspirations
So I have a half-hour of class to work on my journal and I've finally uploaded a WIP, so I figured I'd talk about some of my inspirations for my piece.
The core melody, heard at the very beginning (it may be repeated later in the piece), was inspired by the music of classic N64 and PS1 3D platformers. Click Clock Wood from Banjo-Kazooie isn't a perfect match, but it's close enough.
The second segment has chaotic harmonies and countermelodies - very much in the style of the Mega Man NES games, like Metal Man's theme here.
The third and fourth segments (the final part in the current WIP) - the staccatos and sustained notes - were inspired by the similar pattern used in Castlevania's legendary Vampire Killer.
(Incidentally, I think the staccatos may have also been subconciously ripped-off from the intro of arcade classic Haunted Castle's piece Don't Wait Until Night, though it wasn't intentional and there's enough of a difference for me to leave it be.)
Anyway, goals: I'm hoping to have a 1-2 minute loop, ideally with an intro segment that isn't part of the loop.

Bit of extension, first WIP upload
The piece is now a 32-second loop, albeit missing harmonies for a good portion, and I have uploaded the first WIP (seniorproject4.7.13) to the site.

Extending the melody
Today I finally got a chance to meet again with my mentor. We fleshed out the harmony on the 16 seconds of music we had already, then added a new staccato segment to bring it up to 24 seconds. During the week until we meet again, I plan to add a sustained section to bring it to around 30 to 45 seconds. We're shooting for a 1 to 3 minute loop, so this massive delay might not be the end of the world.
